Call of Duty Week: Day Three

The on-going series of Call of Duty Week hits day three, and along with it Call of Duty 3.

Call of Duty 3. Hmm. Well, I think it may be telling that this was never released on PC. Since the first two were PC only for a long time, this was an odd choice. To be honest though, it had a lot more in common with the console-spinoffs (Finest Hour and Big Red One) than its predecessors. Nevertheless, onwards with the analysis!

Positive
  • The opening mission was pretty good actually. Bombastic, action-y, and not too annoying.
  • It was the first one to have a real crack at a story (although that could be seen as good or bad).
  • It wasn’t buggy (mostly)?
  • You played as part of the Polish army and Canadian army. That was pretty cool.

Negative
  • The stories weren’t very good (not terrible though to be fair).
  • One of the tank missions was literally a turret sequence. I mean, come on! I’m in a bleeding tank, let me drive it! (The other tank mission did let you drive around and wasn’t very good to be fair).
  • Motion controls!
  • Some of the missions were glitchy (or maybe they were designed that way).
  • It looked pretty murky at some points.

Yeah, so all in all a distinctly mediocre game. The four-player split-screen online multiplayer was pretty fun though to be fair, even if it looked awful. It was Treyarch’s first attempt at a well-loved series, and it really wasn’t terrible. Quite.
