Dungeons and Dragons: The Battle

Similar sounds echoed up the stairs behind the adventurers.
"Don't worry," intoned Andrew, "I'll handle this." He motioned to the guards to follow him and they departed down the stairs to combat this new threat.

Erestor quickly fired two arrows at the closest Bodyguards, both striking them hard and causing them to stagger slightly. The others also leaped into action, with Azazel unleashing bolts of eldritch energy at any targets he could see. Wrex immediately charged towards the Patriarch, and scored a harsh blow on him. The Captain of the Guard moved in to aid him, but proved inefectual as the Patriarch dodged most of his blows.Greg quickly moved to defend Erestor's flank, engaging two Bodyguards at once and holding his own.

The Patriarch drew his own sword, leaped over the back of his throne and froze Wrex with a long gout of frost. However, his eyes widened in fear as Wrex merely heated himself up and melted the ice. Filled with rage, he charged once again towards the retreating leader and hit him hard with his mighty war-hammer, and when he drew back a small rune was left branded into the smoking skin of the Patriarch.

Meanwhile, the Bodyguards had managed to close the gap between themselves and Erestor, and managed to land some glancing blows. Erestor calmly parried one blow with his bow, reloaded, and fired an arrow straight towards his foe, tearing half of its head off, sending cogs and gears flying across the room. Azazel achieved similar success after unleashing several bolts of eldritch energy, destroying one machine and blasting an arm off another.

The Patriarch once again leaped back out of range of Wrex's hammer, and sprinted for the balcony. Already, a change was coming over him, as his eyes turned red and his skin started to sprout scales. However, Wrex was endless in his pursuit, closed the range and smashed his hammer, burning with righteous flame, into the Patriarch's jaw. The Patriarch flew backwards into the hand rail of his tower and collapsed to the ground. His body then began to hover into the air, and he crackled with energy.
"If I'm going to die, then you're coming with me!" And with this final cry, he exploded, sending a shock wave rippling though the tower.

For several seconds, nothing happened, then large cracks began to appear in the floor and ceiling. Erestor turned and began kicking on the door, but something must have lodged behind it as it would not open. The others began sprinting to the door, stumbling and falling on the now uneven ground. Greg and Azazel began banging on the door as well, but even their combined strength was not enough. Wrex roared, and ploughed into the door at full speed, ripping the whole door off its' hinges and sending the rubble behind it flying.

Their was no time to thank him however, as the adventurers began sprinting down the stair case. The stairs began collapsing behind them, and the adventurers ran harder than they ever had, and eventually they saw daylight streaming through the bottom of the door. They gave a final burst of speed, and managed to run out of the door, just as the tower collapsed. However, the Captain of the Guard was not so lucky, as he had stumbled on the final stair and was buried forever beneath the huge amount of rubble.
