The British campaign opens with you as a glider soldier attacking Pegasus Bridge. Your squad is key in this mission as you fight across the foggy bridge. The tracers which streak both towards and away from you into the fog give a great sense of atmosphere to the whole mission.
Having secured the bridge, you are then tasked with holding it from a huge German counter-attack. The sight of dozens of Germans charging straight at your weak positions is difficult to forget. Having to run back across the bridge under heavy fire to man the anti-tank Flak Cannon is an incredible experience. Once the gun is destroyed, the journey back is equally intense as the enemy have since been joined by the tanks which you were unable to destroy. Grabbing a horrifically inaccurate Panzerfaust and jumping out onto one of the tanks certainly requires some bravery and luck. When the order is given to fall back, seeing the squad-mates you've fought with to secure and hold the bridge cut down is genuinely moving. Fortunately, a reinforcement group of parachutists soon appears to help, aiding a much needed hand in finishing off the remnants of the German army.
Having displayed such bravery and resourcefulness at Pegasus Bridge, you are drafted into the SAS. Your first mission for them involves single-handedly attacking the heavily defended Eder Dam in order to destroy the Anti-Aircraft guns and generators inside the Dam. The mission feels like playing a James Bond film set in WW2. Gunning your way through dozens of Germans, whilst not being historically accurate, is certainly fun. Once your task is complete, you climb aboard a stolen German supply truck which is manned by Captain Price and Sergeant Waters (two of the only invincible characters).
The following sequence is similar (think: exactly the same) as the truck escape in Call of Duty 4. The mission is entirely on-rails, having you shoot/explode several German cars which are in pursuit. The next mission is a direct follow-on, with the three of you at an airfield, defending yourselves while another squad member prepares a stolen plane. Another turret sequence, this time having you shoot down lots of enemy dive-bombers. This is probably the weakest mission in the game, with regular frustration at almost winning, but being killed by a rifleman that your allies didn't take out.
Fortunately, the next mission is much stronger. You and Captain Price infiltrate a German battleship (with Waters remaining in your boat) in an attempt to steal documents. After being discovered, however, the whole mission goes crazy. You are soon split up from Price, and quickly grab the documents and fight your way out. Getting back to the boat and finding only Waters is a genuinely moving part of the game, as he pulls out without waiting to see if Price will return. It's a harrowing experience, leaving a man behind, even if he is just a video-game character.
The British campaign is probably the weakest of the three, but does provide several great spy moments. Your missions make you feel like an actual SAS bad-ass.
